woe woe woe!
Hey there, casual blog reader. I started a Twitter account today. I don't expect to have any followers except for my sister. She's been at me to start a Twitter account for like a year.
So I can't believe I haven't put up a blog since February WTF, me?! What are you doing, ME?! Jerk! So I guess maybe I was so depressed or distracted by my automobile issues which took place not too far after my previous post, that I didn't have the wherewithal, or motivation to keep up to date on this thing. I have always liked blogging, but I am not the consummate regular blogger. I have irregular blogs. I think that I pretty much need "blog Activia" to regulate my blog frequency.
Since my speed dating experience at Binghamton, I had a slew of other fun shows. Lots of driving, lots of "me" time. Let's skip ahead to today, why don't we? I am going to be leaving home just for a couple of days tomorrow morning, to drive to Wisconsin. I have a show at Ripon College as part of their end of the year Springfest. It should be cool. I played an end-of-year show at Hamline in St. Paul a couple of years ago and it's always better when there are people everywhere and the spectacle of music is always an attraction at these shows, so I'm looking forward to it.
More importantly, is what comes after I get home from this show. I'll be back Sunday, and no, watching my friend's dog is not the most exciting, though he is a good dog. Monday and Tuesday I get to go back into the studio and cut 3 more songs for this everlong record I've been working on since '09-'10. I've been talking a lot of jive about the record for a couple of years, and yes, HighMay did have an EP last Fall, just to hold the tide for a little while, but this thing is something I want to be done, just so that when I tour, I can have recordings of ALL of the songs I am playing at these shows. Can you imagine when you play a long set, and 75% of the songs you played are not recorded? and then people want to hear that song and maybe buy a CD - yes people still buy them - and I have nothing to offer?? DUDE!
So I am pumped. I am actually going to be utilizing some real string players for these couple of songs. Another great addition to the HighMay band project. Right now it's just a part of the studio crew, but I am not opposed to working them in to the live shows (local I suppose, these kids are still in college). It all started when my friend, Mike, bought a cello on a whim from someone he knew, and it was cheap, so he can't pass up a deal. Then we had a couple of my pre-existing songs that we thought might sound cool with cello and acoustic. Skip ahead - from back in the future - and he did a couple of little duo tours in 2010, maybe 3-4 mini trips, and I think they went over really well. Oh by the way, he's not a cellist, and it still worked. He's classical guitar all the way.
So strings going on. We have a "possible" female vocal added on to "stay 4 hours." Lots of fun stuff going on... I can't wait, and given the infrequent views of my blog, I might just straight up post video or rough mix audio of our progress...
I need to edit up my little car expedition when I was alone on the road a couple of weeks ago, doing some of the most ridiculous driving of my life. 3,100+ miles in 6 days. what's that, all you math majors out there? what's the average? over 500 miles a day... and throw in some gridlock traffic and a blown tire at 2am in the middle of nowhere (on the interstate) and voila: point being I need to edit the little video clips together to make it all on one file... that should be fun for some people to watch, but not for me to relive per se.
All right. I just started Twitter so if anyone reads this, check me out, my first post may have been funny.
